Good afternoon, not a very nice day here in Tayside cold and wet. Sitting here half watching a film on the telly that's one thing I likeabout being down in the lounge I can do things at once just about.
we are going to put our tree up today once Stuart makes a trip up the loft he is watching the movie too and reading the paper think this does not say much for the movie.
Stuart and I were chatting last night on our way to bed about when we started working. Stuart said he was paid the princely sum of £2-7/10 for a 46 hour week (£2-35) as an apprentice Lithographer not much when you think that's is only just over £100 per year. Stuart stayed his trade all his working life until he was made redundant at the age of 62 that's 46 years happy to say the wages did get better. Makes you think.
We are hoping to take a trip to Edinburgh this week to see the Christmas lights and the German Market that is in Princess Street gardens hope the weather will be kind and give us a good fair day.

£2.35 a week it seems unbelievable. Enjoy the lights in Edingburough, i've never heard of a german market so hope you take some pics, Good luck getting the tree up..lol and hope all the lights works, thats always the one thing.

Yes Joan I can remember my first wage.It is unbelieveable when you look back over the yars.Yet still we seemd to be happy and manage on such a small income.I am sure we got more for our money in those days.It was our Victorian Christmas yesterday in the Old part of town.The weather was realy bad it poured down in buckets full after dinner I went to visit my cousin today and she said it spoilt the whole afternoon and it would have been beautiful had the rain stopped.I do hope you get a nice dry day for your visit.Take Care God Bless Kath

I cant remember quite how much I earned but it wasnt alot .And my train tkt for the month was 17/6,then I gave my Mum some board money lol, hope its fine for your day in Edinburgh ...love Jan xx
Good luck Joan with putting up your Christmas tree and decorations. We put ours up on Friday afternoon. The house feels so warm and cosy now. £2.35 is an unbelieveable small wage. How did you manage with such little income? Hope the weather is fine, and you enjoy your trip to Edinburgh Market today.

Ooooo look out for pretzels at the german market........my mate is obsessed with german pretzels and we can't find them anywhere. I hope you have a good week!! Clearly not a good film if neither of you were watching it LOL

I have never been to a Christmas market and would love to go to one. I especially love German anything. I think we are going to try to go on a coach tour to Germany again next summer, that's if we can save up enough to go. We put our tree up yesterday as well. Our downstairs room now looks like Santa's Grotto, thanks to an over enthusiastic husband who is trying to make up for all those Christmas's spent alone. :-)

Joan it is raining here again today ~ enjoy putting your tree up ~ I can't remember what my first pay packet was but I do know it was not very much ~ but I think money went further then ~ we have French Markets here but to my knowledge we havn't had a German one ~ would like to go to one though ~ hope the weather is kind to you when you go to Edinburgh ~ Ally x
Yes I remember the small wage we got. I worked for a full 40 hours and got £3.10.0d I had to travel a good half an hour on the bus early in the morning and a weekly ticket cost 12/6d the rest of the money I gave to my mother for my keep. I was 17 years old and worked in the export department office for a large firm. The was no money to go shopping in those days we all went without, but we had no debt, and we were just as happy, well we knew no different did we, it was as it was, and we got on with it. Kathie.
